In a bold and strategic effort to combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability, Agro Preciso Ltd. has joined forces with the Nasarawa State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project. This collaboration, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marks a significant step in the restoration of over six million seedlings aimed at rehabilitating degraded landscapes across Nasarawa State. Agro Preciso, alongside three other firms, will play a critical role in driving this large-scale afforestation initiative, which is central to the state’s climate resilience strategy.
At the core of this partnership is the mission to restore fragile ecosystems, promote biodiversity, and mitigate the effects of climate change in Nasarawa’s semi-arid regions. The Nasarawa ACReSAL project, coordinated by Dr. Napoleon Gyobe Elias, made the announcement during a high-level meeting in Lafia, where the Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Kwanta Yakubu, expressed deep appreciation for the firms’ commitment to environmental sustainability.
Dr. Elias highlighted the importance of the MoU in achieving the state’s long-term goals of forest reserve rehabilitation, noting that the private firms involved, including Agro Preciso, have shown immense dedication to the project’s success. “The MoU signifies a major commitment from these firms to partner with us in creating a climate-resilient future for Nasarawa,” Dr. Elias remarked.
Agro Preciso’s role in this initiative is pivotal, as the company will contribute its extensive expertise in sustainable agriculture and environmental management. The seedlings, cultivated at newly established nurseries across the state, will serve to reforest large areas, improving soil quality, increasing carbon sequestration, and providing green cover for the benefit of future generations.
Dr. Yakubu also noted that the partnership would extend beyond seedling production, with plans to establish research centers. These centers will provide valuable opportunities for students and researchers in Nasarawa’s tertiary institutions to engage in hands-on environmental studies, thus promoting innovation and knowledge sharing in sustainable land management.
On behalf of the private firms, Mr. Robert Garba highlighted the socio-economic benefits of this partnership, noting that the project will create job opportunities for the state’s youth while also addressing urgent environmental concerns. “This MoU is a win-win for Nasarawa State. It not only addresses environmental restoration but also empowers our young population,” Garba emphasized.
The partnership between ACReSAL and Agro Preciso signifies a crucial milestone in Nasarawa’s journey towards sustainable environmental management. With the combined efforts of Agro Preciso and other partners, this afforestation initiative is expected to yield tangible results, making Nasarawa a model for climate resilience in Nigeria.
By engaging in projects like Nasarawa ACReSAL, Agro Preciso continues to demonstrate its leadership in sustainable agricultural practices, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and long-term community development.
